The purpose of an intervention is to transform someone’s life so that they stop behaving in a damaging and/or self-destructive way. They may not be aware of what they are doing, or they may be pretending to themselves that things are different from how they are. What a successful intervention will do is present them with reality in such a way that they can take it on board and, of course, instigate change.
